Instructions

1. Make the Cake Layers

  1. Preheat your oven to 180°C (350°F).
  2. Grease and line 2 square or round baking pans.
  3. In a large bowl, mix flour, sugar, cocoa, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  4. Add eggs, milk, oil, and vanilla – whisk until smooth.
  5. Pour in the hot water (or hot coffee) slowly; the batter will become thin – this is normal.
  6. Divide into the pans and bake 30–35 minutes until a toothpick comes out clean.
  7. Let the cakes cool completely before assembling.

2. Prepare the Chocolate Cream Filling

  1. Heat the cream in a saucepan until warm (not boiling).
  2. Pour over the chopped chocolate in a bowl.
  3. Add butter, then mix until you get a glossy, creamy texture.
  4. Let it cool until thick enough to spread.

This is the layer you see in the middle of the cake in your picture.

3. Assemble the Cake

  1. Place the first cake layer on a tray.
  2. Spread a thick, even layer of the chocolate cream filling.
  3. Place the second cake layer on top and press gently.
  4. Refrigerate for 20 minutes so the filling sets.

4. Prepare the Shiny Ganache Glaze

  1. Heat the cream until just steaming.
  2. Remove from heat and pour over the chocolate.
  3. Add butter and stir until ultra-smooth.
  4. Allow it to cool slightly (it should still be pourable but thick).

5. Cover the Cake

  1. Pour the ganache over the entire cake, letting it drip over the sides.
  2. Use a spatula to smooth the top until glossy and even (like the photo).
  3. Chill for at least 1 hour.
