Ingredients
For the beef layer:
- 1 lb (450 g) ground beef
- 1 medium onion, diced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tsp salt
- ½ tsp black pepper
- 1 tsp paprika
- 1 tsp chili powder
- ½ tsp cumin
- 1 cup tomato sauce (optional)
For the creamy layer:
- 8 oz (225 g) cream cheese, softened
- 1 cup sour cream
- 1 cup shredded cheddar or Mexican blend
- 2 eggs
- ½ tsp garlic powder
- ½ tsp onion powder
For the topping:
- 1½–2 cups shredded cheese (cheddar, Monterey Jack, or Mexican blend)
- 1–2 fresh jalapeños, sliced
- Fresh parsley or green onions for garnish
Instructions
1. Prepare the Beef Mixture
Heat a skillet over medium-high heat.
Add the ground beef and cook until browned.
Add diced onion and garlic, stir for 2–3 minutes.
Season with salt, pepper, paprika, chili powder, and cumin.
Optionally add tomato sauce for a juicier casserole.
Simmer for 5 minutes.
Spread the beef mixture into the bottom of a greased 9×13 baking dish.
2. Make the Creamy Cheese Layer
In a bowl, combine:
- Cream cheese
- Sour cream
- Eggs
- 1 cup shredded cheese
- Garlic powder
- Onion powder
Whisk until smooth.
Pour this creamy mixture evenly over the beef layer.
3. Add the Topping
Sprinkle the remaining shredded cheese all over the top.
Arrange jalapeño slices evenly across the surface.
4. Bake
Preheat oven to 350°F (180°C).
