Glow-in-the-Dark Bubbles
Ingredients:
- 1 cup bubble solution (store-bought or homemade)
- 1 highlighter (yellow or green)
- 1/4 cup warm water (for extracting glow)
- Optional: small squirt of dish soap for stronger bubbles
- UV blacklight (to make them glow)
- For homemade bubble solution:
- 1 cup warm water
- 2 tbsp dish soap
- 1 tbsp corn syrup or sugar (for stronger bubbles)
Directions:
Step 1: Extract the Glow – Use gloves and cut open a yellow highlighter. Carefully remove the felt ink tube from inside and soak it in 1/4 cup warm water. Let it sit for 10–15 minutes until the water turns bright neon (this is your glowing dye).
Step 2: Make the Glow Bubble Mix – Mix your glowing highlighter water with the bubble solution. Stir gently — don’t shake or you’ll create foam.
Step 3: Bubble Time! – Use a bubble wand, straw, or DIY pipe cleaner wand to blow bubbles. Shine a blacklight on the bubbles in a dark room or outside at night. Watch them glow and float with an ethereal light.
Tips & Variations:
- Experiment with different colored highlighters to create bubbles with varying glow effects; each color will give a different hue in the dark.
- For even bigger bubbles, try using a solution that includes glycerin, as it helps to strengthen the bubble’s wall and prevents them from popping as easily.
